"A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out"
With the philosophy "a hand up, not a hand out," you can't help but admire Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County.
We had the privilege of spending Friday the 13th with the wonderful staff of Habitat Forsyth at a local build in Walkertown, NC.
The Habitat model is truly an amazing thing. They help local, hard-working, determined families who don't qualify for traditional mortgages become homeowners.
What a wonderful opportunity! Knowing you've done all you can to support your family but yet, you still fall just that tiny bit short of the requirements to own your own home is discouraging and frustrating. Habitat to the rescue!
The thing I love is Habitat for Humanity isn't just offering handouts. Families must meet income, credit, and rental history qualifications, along with attend financial education, home ownership, and maintenance classes. Let's not forget that these families also invest 300 to 400 hours volunteering to build their own future home or the homes of others. Once they close and move into their newly built or remodeled home, these families begin paying an affordable mortgage back to Habitat for Humanity so the organization can continue helping other families. Simply amazing.
